Saruni Rhino

Set above a dry riverbed in the Sera Wildlife Conservancy, Saruni Rhino blends naturally into the rugged Samburu landscape. Shaded by doum palms and acacias, the camp overlooks a natural gathering point where wildlife comes to search for water and minerals, offering a wonderful opportunity to observe the rhythms of the bush.

The camp’s greatest attraction is its walking experiences, particularly rhino tracking on foot. Local Samburu guides are expert trackers, reading footprints and other subtle signs to locate endangered black rhinos in their natural habitat. Guided walks, tracking lessons and starlit bush dinners add to the sense of adventure and connection with the landscape.

Saruni Rhino forms part of a pioneering conservation initiative in Sera, where rhinos are protected through community-led conservation and tourism provides employment and sustainable benefits to local communities.

Just four rustic bandas are spaced along the riverbed, each built from stone with a thatched roof, canvas doors and windows, flushing toilet, hot and cold running water and a natural stone shower. Their small scale also makes the camp ideal for exclusive use by families or groups.

Remote, intimate and wonderfully authentic, Saruni Rhino offers something very different from a traditional safari. Here, the emphasis is on walking, tracking and connecting with the landscape, with conservation at the heart of the experience.
