Kipalo Hills Camp

Meaning “the place you return to again and again” in the language of the Taita people, Kipalo Hills lives up to its name. Perched on the slopes of the Mbulia Hills, the camp enjoys breathtaking views across the vast plains of Tsavo and the Ngulia Hills towards the distant silhouette of Mount Kilimanjaro. Remote, peaceful and wonderfully private, it offers an authentic safari experience in one of Kenya’s less-visited wilderness areas.

The camp was established on the former Mbulia Group Ranch, covering almost 36,000 acres, at the initiative of the local community. Today, part of the income generated by guests supports the Secluded Africa Wildlife & Community Trust, helping to conserve the area’s wildlife while providing tangible benefits to the surrounding communities.

Wildlife comes remarkably close to camp, with a waterhole attracting elephants, buffalo and, occasionally, leopard and the increasingly rare African wild dog. Between safari activities, guests can cool off in the swimming pool or find a rocky vantage point for a spectacular sundowner. As the sun sinks over the wilderness, there are few better places to appreciate the peace and scale of the African bush.

The safari tents, luxury suite and private villa are discreetly positioned around the main mess and blend naturally into the rocky landscape. Each offers exceptional views across the unspoilt Mbulia Conservancy, with the wilderness stretching seemingly endlessly towards the horizon.
