Review

Why this Camp..?

(According to Google Reviews)

Offbeat Riding Safaris in Kenya earns rave reviews for its thrilling, fast-paced riding and exceptional wildlife viewing. Guests consistently praise the highly experienced Maasai guides and sporty, well-mannered polo ponies. While facilities are off-grid and basic, they are highly rated for comfort and authenticity.

Feedback and details are highly concentrated around two main offerings: the world-famous Masai Mara Ride and the varied Laikipia Plateau ride.

Offbeat Mara Camp

  • The Experience: Located in the Mara North Conservancy, this safari is renowned for putting riders incredibly close to big game, including lion, elephant, and hippo. Guests love the ability to do long, exhilarating canters across the open plains.

  • Accommodation & Food: The camp consists of spacious safari tents with solar lighting and bucket showers that provide piping hot water on demand. Reviewers on platforms like Expertafrica describe the food as restaurant-quality and appreciate the intimate, communal dining.

  • Pricing & Constraints: Prices for a 7-night Mara safari start at roughly $11,950 (approx. £9,110) per person. The riding is typically 5-6 hours a day and is strictly suited for confident intermediate to experienced riders due to the nature of the terrain and big game.

Laikipia Ride

  • The Experience: This progressive 8-night, multi-camp ride takes you through the Lewa-Borana landscape. Riders frequently praise it as the best option for spotting unusual and rare species (like Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, and Beisa oryx) with Mount Kenya in the background.

  • The Horses: The string of horses includes thoroughly schooled polo ponies, thoroughbreds, and Arabian crosses that are forward-going and responsive.

  • Reviews: Across aggregator and equestrian sites, reviews highlight that crossing open landscapes and riding directly alongside vast wildlife herds is an unforgettable, five-star experience.
