Basecamp Masai Mara

Set beneath towering trees on a lush peninsula along the Talek River, Basecamp Masai Mara offers a distinctive blend of safari adventure, cultural immersion and responsible tourism. Located on the edge of the Masai Mara National Reserve, the camp provides an opportunity to experience this iconic wilderness through the eyes of the Maasai people who call it home.

Operated in partnership with local Maasai neighbours, Basecamp offers meaningful opportunities to learn about traditional savannah life and the community’s role in protecting the Mara ecosystem. Guests can visit the nearby village, meet local people and gain a deeper understanding of Maasai culture and the conservation work that supports both communities and wildlife.

The camp’s 17 river-facing tents, including two family units, have been recently refurbished and combine classic safari style with modern comfort. Each features a comfortable bed, en-suite bathroom and private veranda overlooking the Talek River and the plains beyond. The two family tents have separate sleeping areas and a shared bathroom, making them particularly well suited to families.

Wildlife is part of everyday life at Basecamp, with monkeys and birds in the surrounding trees and views across the river into the reserve. Resident Maasai guides bring a valuable local perspective to game drives and other activities, enriching wildlife encounters with knowledge of the land, its people and its traditions.
