Roho ya Selous
Roho ya Selous is an immersive, off-the-beaten-track adventure safari camp overlooking Lake Nzerakera in the heart of Nyerere National Park, Tanzania
Set on a remote peninsula overlooking the shimmering waters of Lake Nzerakera, Roho ya Selous offers an intimate and immersive safari experience in the heart of Nyerere National Park - formerly known as the Selous Game Reserve, and one of Africa’s largest and most biodiverse protected areas.
This elegant yet wild retreat features stretch canvas tents with 180-degree views of nearby waterways, where hippos grunt and crocodiles bask. Each tent is equipped with en suite bathrooms, both indoor and outdoor showers, and the innovative Evening Breeze cooling system positioned over the bed for restful sleep even in the hottest months.
Roho ya Selous is perfectly positioned for access to the park’s core game-viewing area, known for its healthy populations of lion, elephant, buffalo, giraffe, hippo, and one of Africa’s most important populations of African wild dog. The surrounding landscapes, with their palm-fringed rivers, wetlands, and seasonal plains, provide a striking contrast to the grassy savannahs of northern Tanzania.
Guests can enjoy a range of activities beyond traditional game drives, including walking safaris, boat safaris on the Rufiji River tributary, and world-class birdwatching with over 400 recorded species - including the elusive Pel’s fishing owl. Back at camp, relax by the swimming pool, enjoy the open-air lounge and dining area, or gather around the fire at sundown, listening to the sounds of the wild.
With its secluded location, diverse activities, and proximity to water-rich terrain teeming with life, Roho ya Selous delivers a deeply personal safari in one of Tanzania’s most exclusive and untamed regions.
