Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge

Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge

Right on the banks of the Grumeti River, Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge is simply beautiful and with its sustainable design, edged with luxury, it is the perfect choice for those looking for the ultimate safari.

Wildlife lovers can enjoy a private and uncrowded Serengeti experience in the remote western reaches of the park, one of its best kept secrets. With far fewer vehicles and visitors, the game rich plains feel exclusively yours. The area is home to large resident lion prides and an abundance of predators, as well as hyena clans, buffalo, elephant, hippo, and vast herds of plains game. This secluded region also hosts an annual topi migration and the striking black and white colobus monkeys found nowhere else in the Serengeti.

Beyond its spectacular natural setting, this part of the Serengeti is renowned for exceptional lion sightings. Four resident prides, numbering between 20 and up to 60 lions, inhabit the area. The on the ground team continuously monitors lion activity, ensuring outstanding viewing opportunities. With few other vehicles, sightings are often enjoyed alone and unhurried, allowing ample time to observe these powerful predators in their natural environment.

The lodge is set on a tributary of the Grumeti River in the remote western reaches of the park. Permanent waters of the Grumeti and the seasonal Mbalageti River attract an abundance of wildlife year round. Hippo grunt in the tranquil pools directly in front of the lodge, while crocodiles lie motionless in the shallows. Meals are enjoyed on the expansive deck overlooking the river, and the dining area opens onto a traditional African boma where dinner is served beneath a vast, star filled sky.

Inspired by the natural curve of the river and the circular forms of a traditional Maasai manyatta, the lodge reveals an understated sense of luxury rooted in sustainable design. Lightly touching the earth and appearing to float within the landscape, the lodge offers spacious, nostalgically elegant guest suites designed for exclusivity and minimal environmental impact. Guests are invited to take home lasting memories while leaving little to no footprint behind.

Situated on the river bank in this secluded part of the Serengeti, &Beyond Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge offers nine air conditioned suites and one family suite, all with uninterrupted views of the tributary and resident hippo pods.

Review

Why this Camp..?

(According to Google Reviews)

Reviews for Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge are overwhelmingly positive, highlighting its stunning riverfront location with abundant hippos, luxurious, well-appointed suites with plunge pools, exceptional and personalized service, delicious food, and fantastic, knowledgeable guides leading to incredible wildlife sightings (including the Big Five). While some note the close proximity to the airstrip and potential for loud animal noises at night (especially hippos), most find these minor details in exchange for the magical, 5-star experience.

Key Themes in Reviews:

  • Exceptional Service: Staff are frequently praised for going "above and beyond," with personalized touches like surprise birthday celebrations and attentive butlers.

  • Stunning Setting: The lodge is perfectly positioned on the Grumeti River, offering breathtaking views and constant wildlife (hippos, giraffes, elephants) right from the lodge and rooms.

  • Luxurious Accommodations: Suites are described as beautiful, spacious, and well-appointed with modern amenities, private plunge pools, and outdoor showers.

  • Outstanding Guides & Game Drives: Guides are highly knowledgeable, leading to successful Big Five sightings and an exclusive feel, often seeing few other vehicles.

  • Incredible Food: Many reviewers mention the food as the best of their entire trip, with outstanding quality and presentation.

  • Location Notes: It's very close to the airstrip, meaning some flight noise, and the river provides constant animal sounds at night, which some love and others might need earplugs for.

Overall Sentiment:

Guests consistently rate it as a magical, 5-star, "beyond expectation" experience, ideal for a luxurious and memorable safari.
