Ngorongoro Tented Camp
Set amongst the acacia trees on the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater rim, Ngorongoro Tented Camp allows for a quick and easy drive on to the crater floor in the morning.
Ngorongoro Tented Camp is intimately set within an ancient acacia forest near the rim of the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater. Positioned on the quieter eastern access road, the camp offers a significant advantage with quick and easy access to the crater floor. Guests can descend earlier than most, often enjoying an hour’s head start over those using the busier western routes, and can remain longer into the afternoon. As wildlife is most active in the early morning and late afternoon, this allows for exceptional viewing opportunities.
Game drives can begin as early as 6.15 am, with guests reaching the crater floor within 10 to 15 minutes, ideal for photographers seeking the best light conditions. Escorted walks are also available through the forest and along the crater rim, accompanied by an armed ranger and a Maasai guide.
The camp features 10 spacious tents, thoughtfully positioned to ensure privacy while preserving the pristine forest environment. Each tent includes two queen size beds, with triple arrangements available on request. Due to the cooler temperatures on the crater rim, comforts such as warm duvets, hot water bottles, and gas heaters provide a cosy night’s sleep.
En suite bathrooms include a dressing area, flush toilet, and shower. The central mess tent is elegantly furnished with sofas, lamps, bookshelves, and vintage wooden pieces, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Evenings are spent around the campfire sharing stories of the day before enjoying a hearty, freshly prepared meal.
The camp offers a range of amenities including solar powered electricity with backup generator, complimentary internet, and limited laundry services. Charging facilities are available in the lounge, bar, and tents. Game drives are conducted in custom designed four by four vehicles. The nearest airstrip is Lake Manyara Airport, approximately a two hour drive away. Complimentary drinks are included, excluding premium wines and spirits.
