Monachira Camp

Monachira Camp

Named after the Monachira Channel which flows past the camp island, Monachira Camp is based in the heart of Moremi Game Reserve in The Okavango Delta

Monachira is named after the Monachira Channel, which flows past the island on which the camp is situated. Raised on wooden decks, the camp offers sweeping views over the floodplains and wetlands that stretch out before it.

Monachira offers a range of activities including water-based excursions, island nature walks, and wildlife drives. Located within the Moremi Game Reserve, these experiences take guests into some of the Okavango Delta’s more remote and pristine areas. A motorboat excursion along the channels is both thrilling and captivating, offering the chance to view iconic wildlife from the water. Guests can also glide silently through water lilies in a traditional mokoro, observing wildlife from water level for an intimate delta experience.

The camp lies on the edge of the Monachira Channel, close to the famous Gudigwa heronries—an extraordinary nesting site for thousands of herons, egrets, and storks. The surrounding islands and floodplains along the permanent channels are home to elephants, lions, leopards, and a wide variety of Okavango species. There is also the opportunity to spot the elusive Pel’s fishing owl and the rare sitatunga, a semi-aquatic swamp antelope.
