Encounter Camp

Encounter Camp is a fully immersive safari camp set deep within the private Ongava Game Reserve. Here you do not observe the bush from a distance, you are part of it.

Encounter by Ongava is an immersive safari camp set deep within Ongava Game Reserve. Unfenced and surrounded by Mopane woodland, it is a place of immediacy where wildlife moves freely through the landscape and every moment feels alive, unscripted, and deeply connected to nature. Guests do not observe the bush from a distance. They become part of it.

Spacious walk in tents provide comfort without creating separation from the wilderness, allowing guests to relax while remaining connected to the rhythms of the land. Every thoughtful detail ensures comfort, while the sounds, movements, and encounters of the wild remain ever present.

Encounter offers safari as it was meant to be. Intimate, authentic, and deeply rooted in place. Every stay in the bush carries its own quiet magic, yet there is something uniquely compelling about a tented camp. It draws guests closer not only to the landscape, but also to the subtle rhythms that shape life within it.

At Encounter, the senses awaken naturally. The rustle of Mopane leaves in the evening breeze. The soft tread of a waterbuck passing near a tent. A rock hyrax slipping quietly between the rocks. An elephant lingering at the nearby waterhole, close enough for the steady rhythm of its breath to be heard.

Here, guests are not removed from the wilderness. They are immersed within it.

While nature takes centre stage, thoughtful comfort ensures the experience remains effortless. This balance of immersion and refinement defines Encounter, where the wild is experienced intimately without sacrificing ease.

At the heart of the camp is the welcoming thatched dining area, a place to gather, dine, and unwind while the landscape unfolds all around. As the light softens towards evening, eland, waterbuck, rhino, elephant, and on occasion lion move quietly through the reserve, offering constant reminders that at Encounter, the wilderness is never far away.

Why this Camp..?

(According to Google Reviews)

Encounter by Ongava (formerly Ongava Tented Camp) earns outstanding reviews for its close-up wildlife, intimate setting, and top-tier guiding. Located on the private 30,000-hectare Ongava Game Reserve bordering Etosha, guests rave about elephants drinking from the pool and rhinos visiting the camp's waterhole.

Key Highlights

  • Wildlife Viewing: Guests highly rate the exclusive game drives and walking safaris within the private reserve, which often rival or exceed the busy drives inside neighboring Etosha National Park. It's a renowned sanctuary for white and black rhinos.

  • Camp Vibe: The intimate, unfenced layout puts you directly in the bush. Visitors consistently praise the friendly staff, delicious food, and the ability to watch animals at the active waterhole directly from the dining and lounge areas.

  • Accommodation: The tented rooms are comfortable and well-appointed, though a few reviewers note minor quirks like occasionally weak shower pressure.
